There are short hikes that, for minimal effort, can take you to a waterfall or a spectacular view, as well as longer hikes to scenic outlooks, lakes and ponds, and mountain summits. The Flume is a natural gorge extending 800 feet at the base of Mount Liberty. The walls of Conway granite rise to a height of 70 to 90 feet and are 12 to 20 feet apart. A trip into the Flume begins and ends at the Flume Visitor's Center. Guests can choose to walk through just the Gorge or do a two mile loop. The walk includes uphill walking and lots of stairs. Framed by a spectacular vista of Mount Liberty and Mount Flume, the Visitor Center houses the Flume ticket office, information center, cafeteria, gift shop, and the state park system's historic Concord Coach. A 20-minute movie showcasing beautiful Franconia Notch State Park is available for viewing. Summer months the cog goes to the summit, in the winter the train stops at Waumbek Station. In the winter, Each one hour round trip excursion, powered by one of our environmentally friendly biodiesel locomotives, includes a short layover at Waumbek Station (elevation 3900'). Lincoln and Woodstock just 3 miles down the road or Littleton's Main St about 20 minutes from Pemi Cabin has several unique shops, bakeries and restaurants. North Conway, about a 50 minute beautiful drive through the mountains has small unique shops and large retail outlet stores at Settlers Green (often has activities such as movie nights). Many stores in Settlers Green are dog friendly. You will find a lot of ice cream shops, restaurants, a dog bakery (and human ones) and such in North Conway as well.
